2016 Grey Sands Pinot Gris

Region: Tamar Valley, TAS

This wine has mid straw in colour, the nose has ripe aromas of banana, poached pear and baking spices. The palate has rich upfront fruit through a spectrum of white stone fruit, distinctive texture, and gentle acidity, then finally balanced by a long dry finish.

Grey Sands Vineyard is a small (3.5 Ha) family-owned vineyard on the western edge of the Tamar Valley in Northern Tasmania – and should be on every wine lover’s list of things to do when you visit Tasmania.

As grey sand was the predominant soil type on the property, the owners felt the name seemed a forgone conclusion.

While living in England for 3 years (1982-1984) and travelling through the wine regions of Europe it became clear to the owners of Grey Sands that the best wines were coming from the cooler parts of Europe and from sites with ‘difficult’, impoverished soils. On returning to Australia with the aim of establishing their own vineyard, Bob completed a Graduate Diploma in Wine at Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1985/86 and then they headed South to Tassie!
